Who We Are
Immersed in Music
Our entire careers have been in music. We are musicians who know and use appropriate technology, not technicians who like twiddling dials and dabbling in music. Our collected experience in the music industry, over 45 years combined, encompasses our work with many of the top artists, producers and engineers from yesterday and today.
Don Cobb
Don Cobb has more than thirty years of experience in the recording field. For fifteen of those, he was a recording and mix engineer for some of the top acts in the music industry including James Taylor, The Pointer Sisters, Quincy Jones, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Dan Fogelberg, Jimmy Buffett and Take 6. In 1987, Don was invited by the late Denny Purcell to join the staff at Georgetown Masters, where he was introduced to the ‘black art’ of mastering. Over the next fourteen years, he participated in the editing and mastering of hundreds of album projects. Since 2001, Don has had the continued pleasure of working with such artist as Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Alison Krauss and Tim O’Brien here at Independent Mastering. Don lives in Nashville with his wife, Jill, and their two sons.
Eric Conn
Eric Conn’s career of over sixteen years has also been devoted to music production, working in genres from folk to hard rock, gospel, R&B, rap, and bluegrass for such artists as Joan Osborne, Skid Row, The Imperials, Young Buck, Janis Ian, John Prine, and many others. He worked for three years at Doug Sax’s Sheffield Lab Recording and four years at Georgetown Masters, opening Independent Mastering in 2001. Eric holds a degree in music, plays a variety of instruments, and spends his spare time in a hammock on his porch in Nashville.
Chaco
Eric’s dog Chaco, a rescue from Columbia TN, has been a member of the family since May of 2008. Chaco’s time at Independent Mastering is spent hiding bones amongst the technology and tape and turning his bed over. He enjoys walks in the park, chasing squirrels and Gooberlicious treats. When not at work, Chaco can be found chasing small animals into bushes at Eric’s home in Nashville, TN.
