Who We Are
Independent Mastering, LLC is an independently owned and operated business built on time proven technology: enthusiasm. The company continues to be a leader in audio and cd mastering for the simple fact that we love what we do and are passionate about quality audio.
Celebrity is for our clients, and what we love is working behind the scenes; helping you get there with the best sounding album possible is what Independent Mastering is about. Don’t take our word for it, and don’t take anyone else’s either - come see us, and let us show you how easy and how enjoyable it is to create a quality CD Master with the correct tools, knowledge and experience.
New to the process of CD Mastering? We’ll learn ya! We can help you figure out ISRC registration, the correct master format for your project, where to manufacture, where your project needs to be in terms of overall level and volume (sometimes louder isn’t better…), and how to get the most out of your budget.
We do not endorse (or receive kickbacks from) any manufacturer, company, product, or person; but we can recommend business and people with whom we have had good experiences and who we feel do quality work.
Our entire careers have been in music - 30+ years for Don, 16+ for Eric, and the collected experience in the music industry has been with many of the top artists, producers and engineers of the day. We consider ourselves the very best of what we do and we have come from some of the best known names and studios in music recording & mastering.
We read music, we play music, we live music. We are musicians who know, operate and use technology, not technicians who like dabbling in music.

Don Cobb
Don Cobb has 30+ years of experience in the recording field. For 15 years he was a recording and mix engineer for some of the top acts in the music industry such as James Taylor, The Pointer Sisters, Quincy Jones, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Dan Fogelberg, Jimmy Buffett and Take 6. In 1987 Don was invited to join the staff of Georgetown Masters where he was introduced to the “black art” of Mastering. Over the next 14 years he participated in the Editing and Mastering of hundreds of album projects. Since 2001 Don has had the continued pleasure of working with such artist as Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Alison Krauss and Tim O’Brien at Independent Mastering. Don lives in Nashville with his wife, Jill and their two sons.

Eric Conn
Eric Conn’s entire career (16+ years) has been in music, working in genres from folk to hard rock, gospel R&B, rap, and bluegrass for such artists as Joan Osborne, Skid Row, The Imperials, Young Buck, Janis Ian, John Prine, and many others. He worked for three years at Doug Sax’s Sheffield Lab Recording and four years at Denny Purcell’s Georgetown facility, opening Independent Mastering in 2001. Eric holds a degree in music, plays a variety of instruments (but never in public!) and spends his spare time in a hammock on a porch in Nashville, TN.
