Peter Janson Recording Session

About once or twice a year we get back into audiophile recording mode, this time, with guitarist Peter Janson.

7 songs in 2 days with long lunches, and I don’t think we worked past 6pm. A very high quality recording can be done in short amount of time if you have your ducks in a row. The big duck: Peter is an excellent guitarist and we got everything in a couple or 3 takes. Little ducks: good mics, good pre’s, good a/d’s.

Engineering notes:
Recorded June 21-22 2007 at Minutia Studio, Nashville, TN.
Engineer: Brandon Bell
Recorder: Nuendo DAW
Sampling Frequency: 44.1 kHz
Bit Depth: 24bit
Signal Path: tube mic > tube micpre > discrete eq > discrete compressor > a/d > recorder. Very little cable, very high quality signal path. Minimal EQ & compression were used.

We recorded to 44.1kHz for one reason: If we were happy with the take, then we were done; no need for a sample rate conversion to get to compact disc.

In mastering we edited and assembled the disc with limited manipulation to the recorded audio.
